CANTON, Ohio City firefighters responded to an ammonia leak at the top of the Fresh Mark plant at 1600 Harmont Avenue NE at about 5 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 22), and employees from the plant and the nearby Republic Engineered Products facility were evacuated as a precaution, a fire official said.
Battalion Chief Tom Garra said Fresh Marks hazardous materials team sealed the leak by 6:08 p.m., and that the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was notified. No one was hurt. Fresh Mark is a deli meat supplier.
