Roth Cheese Bringing New Forms, Sizes To IDDBA

Monroe, WI – Roth Cheese has long had a reputation for creating award-winning Wisconsin artisan cheeses. Now, the Monroe, Wisconsin-based specialty cheesemaker is making it even easier for shoppers to expand their cheese horizons with a full line of specialty cheese available in convenient forms and smaller package sizes.

"Research with specialty cheese shoppers indicated that they would be more likely to try an unfamiliar cheese if it was offered in a smaller package," explained Guido Kaelin, VP of Marketing for Emmi Roth USA . "By reducing our package size and price point, we have minimized the risk for a shopper considering a new cheese."

In addition to the smaller sizes, many of Roth's most popular cheeses are available in easy-to-use forms marrying the shopper's need for convenience with their desire for the quality of award-winning specialty cheeses. Roth's flagship Grand Cru® is available shredded in five-ounce deli cups and sliced in a six-ounce re-sealable package. Other six-ounce slices include Van Gogh® Original Gouda, Van Gogh® Natural Smoked Gouda, Original Havarti as well as Horseradish Havarti, Peppadew® Havarti, Dill Havarti and Jalapeño Havarti.

In addition, Roth's Buttermilk Blue® and Moody Blue® are available crumbled in deli cups.

The research conducted with category shoppers identified some other opportunities to encourage shoppers to explore new cheeses. Sampling and usage ideas are among the top ways to drive sales of specialty cheeses, but consumers also indicated that they prefer sturdier deli cups for shreds and crumbles, and wedges or rounds instead of a rectangular block.

Roth is featuring these convenient forms in a Facebook contest in June, offering fans who share photos of their macaroni and cheese or pasta dish that uses shreds, slices and crumbles the chance to win a series of prizes, including Roth Cheese gift boxes and an Apple iPad. The products are also being featured in a trade advertising campaign.
