Sara Lee Plans To Expand St. Joseph Meat Processing Plant, Add 55 Jobs

Sara Lee Corp. plans to construct a $3 million addition to its St. Joseph meat-processing plant that will create up to 55 new jobs.

Information filed with the city of St. Joseph confirmed the project, although the corporation has declined to formally announce its intentions. A building permit filed with the city said that Miron Construction Co. of Neenah, Wis., will be the contractor for the 29,000-square-foot addition.

Mike Cummins, Sara Lee’s director of corporate communications, confirmed that the company is starting a construction project in St. Joseph.

“We don’t have anything to release at this point,” Mr. Cummins said. “I’m not really sure how far along we are in the process.”

He said the company will release further details at a later date, but cited “competitive and confidentiality reasons” for not disclosing additional information for now. The building permit is set to expire on Dec. 11, 2012.
