Asters Are The Flower For September

Just because summer temperatures have gone, it doesn't mean the beauty of flowers is gone, too. Gardens can be reworked to include fabulous fall flowers that will have just as positive an impact on viewers as summer's roses and lilies.

Fall gardens often include the September birth flower, the aster, according to the Visalia Times-Delta. Aster flowers are one of 23,000 species in the sunflower or daisy genus, and relatives include the coneflower, chrysanthemum, dahlia, zinnia and marigold.

The bright petals that surround a round, yellow disc can come in a variety of colors, so there are plenty of opportunities to add color to a fall garden. Purple, blue, white, red and pink grace the 100-plus petals of this star-like flower, which derives its name from the Greek word for star, the news source reports.
