Carthamus tinctorius is a thistle like plant with striking orange or yellow flowers. There is also a creamy white variety. Through their rough appearance, they are really suitable in giving a bouquet a natural, wild feel. Carthamus can also be easily dried.
Sun worshipper
Carthamus belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae). Originally it is found in western Asia and is a true sun worshipper. Just like a thistle, the plant has spiky leaves. The cut flower varieties are thankfully less aggressive.
Safflower
Traditionally Carthamus was grown as a paint plant; the plant is also called Safflower. The flower petals give off a substance, brown yellow to red, depending on the amount used. Oil is made from the seeds, which is valued for its healthy, cosmetic and healing qualities. In short, Carthamus is a widely useful plant!
