Costa Farms Acquires Layman Wholesale Nurseries

Miami, Florida — Costa Farms, one of the largest nurseries in North America, is entering the perennial marketplace with the acquisition of Layman Wholesale Nurseries, Inc., a leading supplier to garden centers in the southeast.

For over two decades, Layman Wholesale Nurseries has built upon a rich heritage of family-ownership that is reflected in their quality products, their talented people and the wide range of markets they serve.

The nursery grows perennials and woody ornamentals at three production facilities in Trenton, SC.

“Perennials show a promising future as demand for low-maintenance plants continues to increase,” says Jose Smith, president and CEO of Costa Farms. “This acquisition opens the door for us to offer our customers a wider range of products.”

The Costa Farms family of companies will continue to operate as a perennial grower in Trenton and work with breeders and producers worldwide to expand this category.

“We’re proud our business is recognized as a leading supplier of quality perennials for garden centers,” says Barry Layman, president and CEO of Layman Wholesale Nurseries. “Most importantly, we’re grateful to our loyal customers and dedicated team who have helped us achieve this level of success.”

Layman emphasizes that his company and Costa Farms share common core beliefs of respect for their customers and excellent service. “We’re pleased to be onboard with such an impressive organization that shares similar values as the Layman team,” he says.

Smith agrees. “Layman is a recognized source of quality perennials and this acquisition supports our core philosophy of being a trusted solutions provider for our customers.”
