A group of irate flower and plant traders from The Netherlands has now officially filed suit with FloraHolland in court. Their demand is that the prospective rise in the auction clock rates for 2014, which the flower auction set without the seemingly required agreement from its trader clients, is struck down.
The increase in the clock rates is part of a harmonization of the auction tariffs which FloraHolland has been intent on achieving. The group of traders, however, charges that too many of them will face unreasonable cost increases as a result of it, of up to 250% in certain cases. They are supported in their criticism by trade association VGB – the Association of Wholesale Trade in Horticultural Products.
The group now filing suit consists of both large and small flower and plant dealers that buy at FloraHolland auction sites in Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk and Rijnsburg. They point to an article in the Auction Rules that states that if the VGB does not agree with the announced new tariffs, stakeholders (traders) have the ability to submit the matter to the courts.
