Florists Say Flowers Convey Different Messages

The estimated 32 percent of Americans who plan on giving flowers to their
valentine this year may not know the message their bouquet conveys.

Floral owners in Somerset County said flowers have different meanings, but many
customers do not know the difference.

A lot of people don’t realize flowers mean certain things, said Donna Wilson,
owner of Hilltop Floral and Gifts in Stoystown.

Roses, which tend to be a florist company’s biggest seller not only on
Valentine’s Day but year round, bud in a variety of colors. Wilson said typical
meanings for roses include: red for love, pink for gratitude or admiration,
yellow for joy or friendship, white for innocence or purity, orange for
fascination and lavender for enchantment.
