Got Lei? Donate For Memorial Day

Fifty-thousand fresh lei are needed for placement on the graves of veterans at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl and at all state veterans cemeteries for Memorial Day.

The lei are needed on Friday and can be dropped off at designated community parks, fire stations on O'ahu, and at other locations. Loose plumeria flowers also can be dropped off Friday at the Waipahu District Park, Kailua District Park and Makua Alii Senior Center on Kalkaua Avenue.

All lei must be made of fresh flowers or ti leaves and measure 20 to 24 inches before tying. All lei must be tied. Floral sprays such as ti leaf and anthurium bouquets also are welcome.

The 61st annual Mayor's Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Punchbowl. Boy Scouts will place the lei on each grave to honor the memory of fallen veterans and service members.
