"When in doubt, give flowers." This sentiment has been around for years, and it's still an excellent thought for the holidays.
Poinsettias, the holiday favorite, are available in assorted colors. A large red or white poinsettia will greet visitors or add interest to other holiday decor.
While shopping, Christmas cactuses at the local supermarket floral counter caught my eye. The vivid magenta, white, coral, red and pink varieties were stunning, and I couldn't pass up the magenta. It's at home next to an older coral Christmas cactus that began blooming in November and is now covered in flowers. For care, repot at least every two years after the plant has bloomed.
