4th International Home Garden Conference

Approx. 80 participants from 9 countries participated in Fleuroselect's 4th International Home Garden Conference 'Sharing Success in Britain, home of the hobby gardener'. The event took place in Horsley Park, Surrey, U.K. on 25th and 26th of September. Delegates included packet seed wholesalers, vegetable & ornamental breeders and suppliers to the industry.

Sharing British know-how

Expert speakers presented ideas on how to transform business opportunities into success stories in Home Garden retail. Keynote speaker Carol Paris, Director General of the Horticultural Trades Association discussed the role of a national Trade Association in assisting the promotion of the entire horticultural sector. Colin Crosbie, curator at Royal Horticultural Society’s flagship garden Wisley together with Chris Young, Editor RHS magazine “The Garden”  explained how RHS inspires and influences the gardening public.

Boyd Douglas-Davies of the Hillview Group of Garden Centres presented his successful charity initiative Garden Re-Leaf Day to show how the horticultural industry can stimulate gardening and also make a difference. Jane Moseley, Director of the British Beekeepers Association provided tips on how hobby gardeners can reverse the dwindling bee population trend.

To balance the British, expertise from outside the U.K. was provided by Diane Blazek of All-America Selections and the National Garden Bureau. She explained how both organisations use awards and initiatives such as Plant of the Year to stimulate gardening.

Wonderful Wisley, terrific Tozer

The delegation visited the Royal Horticultural Society’s Flagship garden at Wisley and Tozer Seeds' vegetable trials. The guided tour through the wonderful Wisley gardens was an absolute highlight for all participants. Tozer Seeds excelled with a highly professional product presentation and impressed the delegation with a trial field in excellent condition.

Home Garden Association

The HGA has been created under the Fleuroselect umbrella to promote home gardening as fun, easy, economical and valuable.
