Fleuroselect's FleuroStar for 2011/12 has been won by ABZ Seeds for its stunning garden strawberry Fragaria 'TOSCANA'.
This new, highly visible contest to find the variety with the greatest 'wow' appeal at point of sale was held for the 3rd time at the week 24 FlowerTrials® with the winner being announced at the end of July at Fleuroselect annual gala in Schloss Nordkirchen in Germany.
Fragaria 'Toscana' is a sensational if somewhat exceptional winner. The only edible among the 6 entrants, this exciting new ornamental strawberry was applauded for its striking dark-pink flowers combined with sweet cone-shaped fruits and voted into first position by the 30 expert judges from across the sector from press to retailers to growers. The judges praised the presentation and were excited with the combination of the ornamental and the edible identifying that 'Toscana' fits this trend of the moment.
