Manatee Floral Gladiolus Farm Fights Third Bout Of African Fungus

MANATEE — An African fungus has struck a local gladiolus farm yet again, but the economic damage won’t be as severe this time.

State agricultural inspectors found gladiolus rust at Manatee Fruit Co.’s Manatee Floral farm at 53rd Avenue West and 75th Street West on April 28, the third such discovery there in four years.

The latest find comes after inspectors had declared the 1,400-acre farm rust-free last summer.
