Michigan Floral Association Awards Alice E. Waterous, AIFD, CF, CFD, PFCI, Certified Florist Of The Year

The Michigan Floral Association has chosen Alice E. Waterous, AIFD, CF, CFD, PFCI, as the 2014 Certified Florist of the Year. The award was presented at the Great Lakes Floral Expo held at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI.

The criteria for this award is as follows: "This individual was nominated by their peers and selected via a secret ballot vote by the certified florist committee under the guidance of the Michigan Floral Association board of directors.  This is the highest award presented to a certified florist."

Alice Waterous has been involved in the floral industry for 40 years as a shop owner, wholesale house staff designer, and freelance designer. 

She is has presented programs at  AIFD National Symposium, was twice president of the AIFD North Central Regional Chapter, and served on the AIFD membership committee. Her involvement with the Michigan Floral Association includes four terms at president of the association and serving as chairman of the Great Lakes Floral Expo.

Her specialty design and consultant company serves commercial, municipal and private clients for seasonal and interior décor and her design work has appeared in several magazines including The Professional Florist, Flora and Grand Rapids. 

Each year the MFA Awards and Nominations Committee is responsible for soliciting and reviewing award nominations.  The committee sends all qualified nominations to a panel of independent judges who evaluate and complete an evaluation form for each nominee.  The committee then totals the points received for each candidate nominated in a specific category and averages.  The candidate receiving the highest average score in each category is then chosen to receive the award.
