November: The Orchid In The Spotlight

Each month the Flower Council of Holland focuses on a flower and in November that is the orchid. Now that it’s getting colder outside, it’s time for a bit of extra luxury and style inside. This can be instantly achieved with stylish cut orchids such as the Phalaenopsis, the Vanda, the Cymbidium and Paphiopedilum.

Instant style with the orchid

An elegant cut orchid in a robust vase will give every interior an immediate boost. The orchid is available in a wide range of colours, from powdery pastels and bright pink, to a tiger print and will therefore match any style. With a bit of extra attention the flower can last for weeks.

Origins of the orchid

It is believed that the orchid originates from Mongolia. Researchers think that the timeless beauty already existed there millions of years ago. Nowadays the flower is a real globetrotter and apart from the Polar Regions, it is to be found all over the world. There are more than 25,000 varieties, but the florists sell mainly the tropical varieties.
