Beef Checkoff Helps Boston Fuel Up & Be BOLD With Lean Beef

The beef checkoff is participating in its sixth John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo Boston Marathon Weekend® to educate runners and spectators to “protein up” and live vibrantly with lean beef. Healthy lean beef meals provide nutrients such as protein, iron, B-vitamins and essential amino acids to maximize performance and recovery for athletes to be at the top of their game.

In addition to lean beef’s nutrient powerhouse, research shows that daily lean beef consumption can be part of a diet that promotes heart health. Beef in an Optimal Lean Diet (BOLD), a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that beef can play a beneficial role in a cholesterol-lowering diet. The study found that diets including lean beef every day are as effective in lowering total and LDL “bad” cholesterol as the gold standard of heart-healthy diets (DASH, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension).

Booth Highlights

The beef checkoff will be at the Sports & Fitness Expo Friday, April 12 – Sunday, April 14 sampling 90% lean beef snack sticks to refuel after the race; offering a runners prize basket, and distributing make-your-own cheer cards to encourage Marathon participants race day. National Beef Ambassadors will also be on-site to offer easy ways to incorporate lean beef into the daily diet.
