Canadian Beef Industry’s Exports Soared In 2010

Exports of Canadian beef and veal are rebounding strongly, led by sales to Japan that jumped by 81 per cent in the first 11 months of last year.

The 13,277 tonnes shipped to the world's third-largest importer of beef through the end of November were worth $67 million, according to the Canadian Beef Export Federation, up almost 6,000 tonnes and $26 million over the same period in 2009.

"Japan has been increasing its imports from the world at a much slower pace than our exports have been increasing, the bottom line is we're gaining market share," said Ted Haney, president of the federation.
