Canadian Meat Council Launches New Website As Component Of Commitment To Expand Public Outreach

Ottawa, ON – Registering annual sales surpassing $24.1 billion, exports exceeding $4.7 billion and direct employment of close to 70,000 workers, the meat industry constitutes the largest segment of Canada’s food processing sector. Founded in 1919, the Canadian Meat Council represents Canada’s federally registered meat packers and processors as well as the industry’s numerous suppliers of equipment, technology and services.

During 2012, the member companies of the Canadian Meat Council engaged in a top to bottom review and update of its vision, mission and strategic priorities. Associated with the outcomes of this exercise were: a refreshed logo; a new “MEAT … Good for you. Good for Canada.” motto; and, a commitment by the Council to expand its outreach to Canadians.

“A key element of our enhanced outreach to Canadians is the launch of a new Canadian Meat Council website that is markedly more visitor-friendly and informative than was its predecessor” said CMC Chair Ray Price. “When the new website is consulted, Canadians will find information presented clearly according to four primary themes that we believe are of particular interest to them. These themes are: Food Safety; Nutrition and Health; Animal Health and Welfare; and, International Trade” added Price.

In addition to the four new themes, the CMC website continues to feature the frequently consulted “Events” and “Media Room” locations as well as a “What’s New” advisory and a “Member” section. The content of the theme sections will increase progressively during the coming months as technical fact sheets and policy documents are created or updated.

“Canada has a dynamic and competitive livestock and meat sector that provides jobs and high quality, nutritious and safe food in every region of this country” said Canadian Meat Council Executive Director Jim Laws. “Already exporting to more than 120 countries around the world, the vision of Canada’s 400 federally registered meat establishments is that Canada will continue to be trusted as a world leader in the provision of safe and wholesome meat,” added Laws.
