Cargill Makes Admission In E.Coli Case

Food giant Cargill, in documents filed this month in federal court, has
admitted that its ground beef was the cause of the E.coli that left Cold Spring
woman Stephanie Smith with debilitating injuries.

The revelations are in an answer that the Minnesota company filed to a lawsuit
seeking $100 million in damages. Smith, a former dance instructor, is paralyzed
from the waist down and suffers from several serious complications from the
E.coli she got after eating a hamburger.

The admission by Cargill is unprecedented in a food illness case, said Bill
Marler, the Seattle-based attorney representing Smith.
