E. Coli Outbreak Reported At Wausau Meat Market

WAUSAU, Wis. – Four people got sick from E. coli bacteria after eating smoked ready-to-eat meats from Zillman Meat Market, the Marathon County health department said Thursday.

One person had to be hospitalized.

The health department said all four ate the meat from wild game that was processed between September 30 and November 13th.

An investigation to determine the original source and extent of the contamination is ongoing. Zillman Meat Market is fully cooperating with investigators.

“Our customers are our number one priority,” owner Pat Zillman said as he prepared fresh meat cuts for waiting customers. “We’ve done everything the health inspectors have asked us to and have given them all the information we have.”
