Event By Oliver’s Market & Petaluma Poultry Showcases Local Producers

COTATI, Calif. — Sonoma County residents are invited to taste the best of Sonoma County on Saturday, April 30th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oliver’s Market in Cotati.

Sponsored by locally owned and operated Oliver’s Market and the country’s first and largest organic free range chicken company, Petaluma Poultry, “A Taste of Sonoma County at Oliver’s Market” will showcase samples from over 40 food and wine companies based in Sonoma County, a region rich in natural and organic food brands and local producers.

The event kicks off Oliver’s Market 2011 “Go Local” campaign, which features more than 300 local vendors, businesses, and nonprofit organizations Oliver’s supports. Beginning April 30th, Oliver’s Market will feature its partners in posters throughout its stores and on its new website. As part of the campaign, Oliver’s stores will incorporate “Made Local” tags and shelf-talkers to point residents to their local choices.

Shared Oliver’s Market General Manager Tom Scott, “With this event, we want to give residents a chance to experience a bit of what makes this region so special, and we’ve gathered some fantastic companies together to do it. It will be like one big potluck.”

Proud to be teaming with Oliver’s for this initiative, Petaluma Poultry still operates much like when it began as a small farm and processing company forty years ago. The company has maintained an unwavering commitment to food safety and animal-raising protocols (vegetarian-fed; no antibiotics, added hormones, preservatives, artificial flavorings or colors; an across-the-board devotion to animal-welfare practices). Petaluma Poultry is behind the first USDA-approved free range chicken program (branded as Rocky The Range® chicken) and the first certified organic chicken in the USA (Rosie® Organic Free Range Chicken).

“Petaluma Poultry was at the forefront of defining organics in the poultry category,” said Scott Fortney, retail sales specialist at Petaluma Poultry. “But Sonoma County has been leading the way in organic food since long before we can remember. Helping bring together other local pioneers in the natural food industry seemed the perfect way to celebrate our 40th anniversary.”

The event will also include music from local artist Wishbone. For more information, please visit www.petalumapoultry.com and www.oliversmarket.com.
