Former Isenberg Meats Property In Buffalo, NY To Become Meat-Processing Plant

Businessman and restaurateur Tucker Curtin bought the former Isenberg Meats refrigerated food processing plant at Clinton and Babcock streets, hoping to restart it as a government- certified meat plant.

Curtin, owner of the Steer Restaurant, Lake Effect Diner and Dug’s Dive, plans to use the longtime Isenberg site in Buffalo to cut, grind, cook, cure, smoke and package a variety of meats for resale and distribution, in a U. S. Department of Agriculture-regulated business.

He and his wife had planned to set up that company in 40,000 square feet of space they took over at the Niagara Frontier Food Terminal, along with their state-supervised kitchen and market for peeling, washing, preparing, freezing, canning and selling vegetables.

Instead, the USDA meat business will shift to the Isenberg property, which is already set up for it, and the Curtins’ vegetable kitchen, which is overseen by the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, will remain at the food terminal at Clinton and Bailey streets.
