Indiana's Fisher Meats Wins Cured Meat Awards

Fisher Meats has again won top awards at a statewide meat competition.

The company, which has a retail store at 2800 N. Walnut St. as well as its Fisher Packing Company location in Portland, competed in the Indiana Meat Packers and Processors Association's annual Hoosier Cured Meat Show. The show was held March 30-31 at Purdue University.

The awards won by Fisher include grand champion in bologna, braunschweiger, summer sausage and pepper bacon; reserve grand champion in hot dogs, cooked brats, bone-in smoked hams, jerky and venison summer sausage and champion in smoked boneless turkey breast and cooked barbecue ribs.

Products were judged by meat experts from universities including Purdue, Wisconsin, Penn State and Ohio State and by meat processors in other states. Products are judged on quality, workmanship, taste, appearance and texture.
