Washington D.C.–In the spirit of the March Madness tournament season, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) is proud to announce the ultimate Hot Dogs vs. Sausages tournament bracket. Beginning Monday, March 18, 2013, people can vote for their favorite regional hot dogs and sausages. Voting will be conducted online via polls on the NHDSC Facebook page and will continue throughout the month with a winner announced on April 8th.
Hot Dog and Sausage favorites won’t be the only winners. NHDSC fans have a chance to win as well. NHDSC t-shirts will be given away to people who vote in all 15 matchups. The participant who shares the polls with the most people on Facebook will win a gift card for their favorite hot dogs or sausage.
“The tournament is a great way for even non-sports fans to get into the March Madness spirit,”said NHDSC President and ‘Queen of Wien’ Janet Riley. “Sausages and hot dogs have such diverse regional varieties and loyal fans. It will be fascinating to follow the tournament to see who wins different matchups and ends up as the ultimate favorite.”
The tournament features distinct regional favorites, such as the New York Dog (hot dog served with steamed onions and a pale, deli-style yellow mustard) and the Chicago Dog (dogs layered with yellow mustard, dark green relish, chopped raw onion, pickle spear, sport peppers, tomato slices and topped with a dash of celery salt and served in a poppy seed bun) pitted against some emerging favorites, such as the Seattle Dog (hot dog served with cream cheese and grilled onions on a toasted bun). Featured sausages include bratwurst, mortadella, chorizo, Andouille, kielbasa, salami, bologna, and Italian.
