New 'Behind The Beef' Program Helps People Enjoy Beef More Often

Tomorrow, the barbecues will be fired up and the beef will be sizzling on the legislature lawn as BC ranchers gather in Victoria to celebrate the third annual BC Beef Day, May 16, 2012. The theme of this year’s event is to showcase the very successful Behind the Beef consumer education program developed by the BC Cattlemen’s Association with assistance from the Ranching Task Force.

Behind the Beef provides information about beef cuts, choosing and preparing beef and how cattle are raised. A team of 28 Beef Educators are delivering the Behind the Beef program in local grocery stores, fairs & exhibitions, schools, and other community events. A helpful website is also available where consumers can submit questions to industry experts and find many beef recipes at www.behindthebeef.ca.

“People enjoy eating beef. This program helps them enjoy beef more often by offering tips on cooking the most economical cuts of beef as well as new recipes,” says BC Cattlemen’s Association General Manager, Kevin Boon.

“Being more accessible to consumers is important to the BC beef industry. We want to be your source for information about beef and ranching,” explains BC Cattlemen’s President and rancher, Judy Guichon.

Behind the Beef was made possible with funding from the Canada-BC Ranching Task Force Funding Initiative, a $5 million federal-provincial investment in B.C.’s beef sector.

In celebration of BC Beef Day, ranchers all across BC invite you to sit down with your family and enjoy a wholesome beef meal.

The beef industry contributes over half a billion dollars to B.C.’s economy every year, and over 4,000 ranches across the province support families and communities by providing employment and supporting
