Reston, Virginia – North American Meat Association has retained the services of a government relations representative in Mexico. Susana Arellano will join the NAMA team as part of its strategic plan to become the premier North American meat industry association.
“NAMA is exceptionally fortunate to have obtained the expert services of a Mexican government relations expert with the experience of Susana Arellano,” said NAMA CEO Barry Carpenter. “She has already begun coordinating NAMA’s work in Mexico, and is greatly increasing the reach of our advocacy efforts on behalf of our members.”
Arellano was previously the executive director of OCETIF, the Mexican trade association of meat companies that manages the third-party certification for federally inspected plants. She has also worked for the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) as a regional manager, supporting market access regulatory activities and food safety monitoring work. This included the equivalence and harmonization of food inspection services and animal health regulations between the U.S. and Mexico.
Arellano is a veterinarian by education. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the Autonomous University of Mexico. She later obtained a Masters in Epidemiology at University of Guelph in Guelph, Canada.
North American Meat Association is one of the largest trade groups in the global meat trade, with nearly 700 member companies in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and other countries.
