People often say shopping for groceries while hungry is a bad idea. Well, the
folks at the Piggly Wiggly in Leland would beg to differ.
They do things a bit different at the little grocery store just over the bridge
from Wilmington.
The big difference? That’s clear as soon you walk in the door: The unmistakable
hickory aroma from the in-house smoked meats
The store has partnered with the franchise company SmokeRise to provide
sumptuous barbecue. Beef brisket, ribs, pulled pork, hams, chickens the deli
counter at this grocery store is a barbecue lover’s dream.
This melding of barbecue and grocer happened in Leland just over a year ago,
with Lou Gizzi taking the helm over the pit.
