ST. LIBORY — A new meat wholesaler and retailer has risen from the ashes and reopens today on Illinois 15 in town.
The Wenneman Meat Co. is opening a new 22,000-square-foot building where a fire destroyed the previous one 9 months ago. Since then, co-owners Brad Schmitz and Paul Otten have continued to process and sell meat out of trailer on site.
"It's actually very exciting," Schmitz said. "We really haven't had time to wallow in the excitement at this point."
"The pressure has been on us constantly, but I think it all worked out from what we're seeing," Otten said. "So far, everything is looking pretty good."
