Southern Oregon Asks, Where’s The Veal?

I have been in the area since 2003 and haven't seen veal in supermarkets. Where do you get veal these days?

Once-chic veal has been reduced to status as special order at many grocery stores, said Sandy Dowling, chef and owner of The Willows Cooking School in Central Point.

There still are a couple reliable sources, Dowling said. Topping her list is Cherry Street Meats, a traditional meat market that serves many local restaurants.

The store at 986 Cherry St. in West Medford quoted veal prices from $10.95 to $14.99 per pound, depending on the cut. Ground veal would set you back $4.69 per pound. The meat comes from Washington.
