The Huisken Meat Company: The Burgers Of America

The scariest moment of Cliff Albertson’s life was the day in 1992 when a tornado hit Huisken’s Chandler, MN premises. Much of the plant was demolished and it was, he says, extremely fortunate that nobody was killed.

“That night, if anyone would have told me we would have the burger side of the operation back within a week, I’d have said it was drink or drugs talking! But we did. We had more people showing up to help us than we could really use,” he recalls.
That was the kind of spirit and dedication shown by the Huisken employees. The company has since moved to Sauk Rapids a little further to the north and east, but the work ethic and company culture has remained the same.

COMPANY TRANSFORMATION

When Albertson, a certified public accountant, joined the company nearly 30 years ago, it was a very different meat operation than what it is today, he says. “Almost 50 percent of our revenue was from custom processing. Slaughtering an individual animal for an individual customer, to his specification.”
