Renninger noted the challenge of operating a successful meat processing business where the typical return on sales is only 2.6%. To be successful the meat processor must focus on a limited number of key shop floor metrics to monitor and improve financial results.

Renninger explained how to identify which metrics to track and how to determine their dollar effect. He further explained how to use budgets so that operating personnel can better understand where to focus for operating improvement.
