V-Bar-V Ranch Explorers Day To Discuss Grain-Fed Vs. Grass-Fed Beef Cattle

Spend a day on the V Bar V Ranch, learn about ranching in the southwest, and enjoy a V Bar V Ranch beef barbecue lunch with fresh-from-the-coals Dutch oven cobbler for dessert.

Ranch Explorers Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 28. The event is held annually by the University of Arizona V Bar V Ranch Agricultural Experiment Station at Mahan Park, a meadow in the pines on the east end of the Ranch near Happy Jack, Arizona. Bus transportation is provided from Prescott, Dewey, and Camp Verde.

This year, ranch personnel will present a program comparing Grain-Fed vs. Grass-Fed beef, including taste testing. Ranch activities, including Range Evaluation and Management, Back Country Horse Use and Ethics, and Chuck Wagon Cooking, will be demonstrated. A variety of range plants will be on display. And there will be opportunities to take a guided plant walk, pet farm animals, play ranch games and ride on a hay wagon.
