Veal & Wine For The Holidays

Beginning Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, 2012, a veal retail promotion has been formed in partnership with the beef checkoff and Casillero del Diablo Brand Spanish Wines, the largest marketer of Spanish wines in America, the California Milk Marketing Board and Classico Sauces.

“We hope this retail promotion will benefit everyone in the veal industry by stimulating consumer purchases of veal cutlet sales throughout the 2012 Holiday Season,” says Tom Houlton, Thomas Marketing Group, LLC and member of the checkoff’s veal committee.

The fall retail promotion centers around an Instant Redeemable Coupon (IRC) placed on 300,000 bottleneckers on Casillero del Diablo wines in over 50 supermarket chains across the United States. Participating supermarkets include chains such as Albertsons, COSTCO, Dillons, HEB, Kroger, SAMS Club and WalMart.

The IRC coupon helps consumers save up to $2.55 for the Legendary Veal Parmigiana,” explains Houlton. “It’s $1 off veal, $1 off Classico Pasta Sauce and $0.55 off Real California Made Cheese. That’s the makings for a fantastic holiday meal.”

The beef checkoff investment helps to fund the layout, design, printing and distribution of the bottleneckers. The IRC redemption for the veal cutlet purchase will be paid by Casillero del Diablo wines.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
