Winnipeg’s Granny’s Poultry Is Expanding, Looks To Enter Institutional Market

GRANNY'S Poultry has bought a Winnipeg turkey processor and hopes to expand its health and wellness offerings into the health-care and institutional markets.

Granny's, a Manitoba poultry co-op, announced Monday it has acquired Prairie Produce Inc., a small, Winnipeg niche player that produces low-sodium turkey roasts and rolls, mostly for the health-care, food-service and institutional markets.

Craig Evans, Granny's CEO, said the acquisition of Prairie Produce is a nice fit for Granny's

"It's a good acquisition for us because it's a smaller player and this is a new business for us," he said. "So it will be a good way for us to get our feet wet in that business."
