Bee Sweet Citrus Announces Heirloom Navels Are Back For Citrus Domestic Season

FOWLER, Calif., – Heirloom Navels are back at Bee Sweet Citrus, and its sales team is redirecting consumer focus towards this unique variety.

“While mandarins make a fabulous snack for work or school, it’s hard not to encourage consumers to try our Heirloom navels while they’re in season,” said Bee Sweet Citrus Director of Communications Monique Bienvenue. “Unlike other navel varieties, its taste is never compromised by acidity and this variety is often sought out for its amazing flavor.”

Over the last century, farming methods for Navel oranges have changed, and new varieties have been developed to help expand product availability. While most navels are available year-round, Heirlooms stay true to its name with limited availability in the winter months.

Heirloom navels are a selection of a parent Washington; the first navel variety that was brought to America from Brazil in 1870. They are grown on older blocks of well-aged trees, and the same farming methods that were used to grow Washington navels over a century ago are used to grow Heirlooms today. This has allowed its flavor profile and physical characteristics to remain intact and are just a few reasons why Heirlooms are sought out by consumers annually.

“Heirloom Navels are unmatched in flavor and set a very high standard for other easy-peel varieties,” continued Bienvenue. “Its high brix levels make them perfect for numerous meals, snacks and desserts and we encourage everyone to try them out while they’re available.”
