BrightFarms & McCaffrey’s Announce Agreement For Store Greenhouse

New York, NY and Langhorne, PA – McCaffrey’s Markets and BrightFarms today announced an agreement to build a greenhouse farm directly at one of McCaffrey’s grocery stores.

BrightFarms will finance, build and operate the greenhouse, which will grow Ultra Local produce for McCaffreys. McCaffreys will purchase the produce from the greenhouse – items such as lettuces, tomatoes and herbs – as per a long term produce purchase agreement.

By growing the produce directly at McCaffrey’s stores, eliminating cross-continent shipping and distribution, BrightFarms and McCaffrey’s will be offering customers the freshest, tastiest and most environmentally sustainable produce imaginable.

“McCaffrey’s has built its grocery business by knowing their customers better than anyone else,” – stated Paul Lightfoot, the Chief Executive Officer of BrightFarms. “Demand is strongly increasing for locally grown, healthy and sustainable produce, and we are delighted to help McCaffrey’s meet the demand.”

“We are really excited to be working with BrightFarms. Not only will the greenhouse allow us to continue providing to our customers the freshest and highest quality produce, but it also fits right into our company philosophy to make as small an impact on the environment as possible,” – stated Jim McCaffrey, Owner and Chief Executive Officer of McCaffery’s Markets.
