Ferrara – The first load of Abate Fetel pears arrived in the USA just a few days ago, in time to get to New Orleans, for the 2013 edition of the Fresh Summit PMA (18-20 October), where the CSO had organised a promotional event that was much appreciated by the numerous sector operators and buyers present at the trade show.
At the stand dedicated to European Flavors – the promotion project financed by the European Union, the state of Italy and CSO member companies, and aimed at the US, Canadian, Russian and Japanese markets – there was a special pear-tasting event featuring the Abate Fetel cultivar, Italy's Queen of Pears. The pears were presented in a simple but much-appreciated recipe exalting the unique flavour of this variety in combination with Italy's most famous cheese, Parmigiano Reggiano PDO, completed by a refined sprinkle of Traditional Modena Balsamic Vinegar.
This event was accompanied by the playing of a Jazz quartet, which attracted numerous visitors interested in this Italian pear variety which is an absolute novelty in the USA.
The event was a big success for the CSO-run European Flavors stand, thanks also to Italian member companies such as Alegra, Apofruit, Granfrutta Zani, Made in Blu and Salvi, all active participants in this program for promoting Italian fruit & vegetable products in the world.
The Fresh Summit show was also highly satisfactory for CSO sector production chain companies like Infia, TR Turoni and Unitec, who displayed their products and technologies.
