BARTOW – Ken Keck will resign this week as executive director of the Florida Department of Citrus after five years — the victim of, in no particular order, declining orange juice sales, citrus greening, higher taxes and state Sen. J.D. Alexander.
Marty McKenna, the new chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission and a Lake Wales-based grower, confirmed Thursday that Keck "is putting his resignation in" after several discussions between them on his future role.
"It's true I'm in good faith discussions on what's good for the future of the Florida citrus industry," said Keck, who declined to confirm or deny his pending resignation.
However, Keck pointed to the agenda for a Citrus Commission teleconference at 10 a.m. Wednesday, which includes an item for "consideration of approval of terms of resignation of acting executive director."
