Frieda's Now Offers Organic & Conventional Stokes Purple Sweet Potatoes

LOS ALAMITOS, CA – Frieda’s popular Stokes Purple® Sweet Potatoes are returning for the third season, and the crop is expected to be harvested and ready for shipping in late September. New for the 2014 season will be a 12/3 lb. bag, in addition to 15 lb. and 40 lb. bulk cartons. (All potatoes are labeled to reduce front end checker error.) Also, Frieda’s will be offering good supplies of Organic Stokes Purple® Sweet Potatoes, along with conventionally grown product.

The California-grown Stokes Purple® Sweet Potato has a purple skin and deep purple flesh that is unusually high in antioxidants—such as those found in super foods like açai, blueberry, and purple corn. This tuber also has a low glycemic index and is non-GMO, which makes it very popular with those on Paleo and clean-eating diets.

“We sold out of our entire crop last year in late January—not one single sweet potato left behind for both conventional crop and our organic pilot program! So we planted a lot more this year, so we can have year-round supply,” said Karen Caplan, President and CEO of Frieda’s Inc. “These tubers are extremely popular with shoppers for their gorgeous color and well-balanced flavor. Additionally, fitness enthusiasts find Stokes Purple® to be the perfect fuel for their healthy lifestyle, and they stock up on them.”

Interested retailers, wholesalers, and foodservice distributors can contact Frieda’s to pre-book product for holiday promotions, and to have access to Frieda’s extensive product information, high resolution images, and recipe database.
