Grower-Shipper Association Hosts UC Davis Students Seeking Summer Internships In Agriculture

Salinas, CA – On Monday, March 23, 2015, UC Davis students will come together with ag industry professionals at the Grower-Shipper Association (GSA) office to learn about summer internship opportunities in Salinas Valley agriculture. This event is a collaborative effort between GSA and the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

“We noticed that GSA has a lot of employers looking for summer interns from agricultural Universities, but weren’t finding opportunities to meet with the students,” said Jim Bogart, President and General Counsel at the Grower-Shipper Association. “Similarly, UC Davis has a lot of students seeking internships and employment in the Salinas and Pajaro Valley ag industry, with limited access to employers. We’re simply bringing everyone together.”

During this event, more than 30 UC Davis students will come to Salinas to learn more about the area, the ag industry as a whole, and employment opportunities that exist here. These students will come prepared with their resumes and listen to short presentations from 10 ag companies including Paraiso Vineyards, Ippolito International, Andrew & Williamson, Church Brothers, Bengard Ranch and more. The students will then have the opportunity to connect directly with the companies that they would like to work for.

“We are proud to be partners with UC Davis in creating a unique opportunity to connect their brightest students with some of the most innovative ag companies in the world,” said Ernie Farley of Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce (also a UC Davis Alumnus and Chairman of the Board at GSA).

The Grower-Shipper Association is an organization representing over 340 members throughout Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties. For more information or to learn how you can become a member, visit www.growershipper.com.
