Kansas Basil Growers Find Fans In 68-Plus Stores

BASEHOR — Jeff and Pam Meyer roll leaves from nearby basil plants in their fingers.

“This is lemon,” Pam says as she smells the plant.

“This is thai,” Jeff says, describing the scent of his leaf.

The Meyers operate Cal-Ann Farms, east of Basehor, where they grow and package five varieties of basil and 11 other types of herbs in four greenhouses with 15,000 square feet of growing space.
