NHL All-Star Promotes Potatoes At Wisconsin Children’s Hospital

Madison, WI – Another hockey season is right around the corner. But before hitting the ice, two-time Olympian and NHL All-Star Joe Pavelski, who hails from Plover, is teaching kids how Wisconsin potatoes can power their performance at the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison on Monday, August 6.

The visit will begin at 1pm at the hospital, located at 600 Highland Ave., and will continue until 2:30pm. Pavelski will be joined by representatives from several Wisconsin potato grower organizations as he shares the importance of nutrition, supporting local economies by buying local, and striving to achieve your dreams.

“Educating kids about the health benefits Wisconsin potatoes naturally provide, while also sharing how they provide the energy bodies need  to get through and recover from any kind of physical activity is important, not to mention sharing the different ways families can prepare potatoes in fast and healthy ways,” says Dana Rady, WPVGA Director of Promotions. “Furthermore, to hear this message from a professional hockey player like Joe Pavelski is significant,” Rady adds.

“Visits from athletes, whether they are Badgers or professional players, brighten the day of our patients and their families by taking the time to talk with them and to get to know them,” says Lori Schultz, Fund Development Program Coordinator at American Family Children’s Hospital. “When a patient is in the hospital for multiple days, weeks and sometimes months, having someone like Joe Pavelski stop by to talk with him/her can make this one day a little brighter. It offers a fun and happy memory from being in the hospital. Players help to make a scary hospital stay a little better by taking time out of their busy schedules to show they care about the children who are in the hospital here at American Family Children’s Hospital. We are looking forward to Joe Pavelski’s visit.”

Pavelski’s visit to the American Family Children’s Hospital is in conjunction with his partnership with the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA), which also included the production of various print ads and banners, as well as a 30-second commercial that will air again this fall.

WPVGA is a non-profit organization that represents and promotes state potato and vegetable growers. We currently represent more than 300 members and affiliates. For more information on our commitment to sustainable agriculture, jobs and water use, visit www.wisconsinpotatoes.com.
