PEI Potatoes Look Forward To An Event-Filled Fall

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE  –  September and October are the start of harvest season for Prince Edward Island Potatoes, and to celebrate, the PEI Potato Board is involved in a number of festivals and events on Prince Edward Island in the coming months!  Potatoes are not only a major cog in Prince Edward Island’s economic engine, but are also a part of the Island’s cultural identity.  The Potato Board is proud to be a sponsor of a number of high profile events that appeal to Islanders and visitors alike!

The PEI Shellfish Festival (http://peishellfish.com/) runs from September 12th to 15th in Charlottetown, and once again, the PEI Potato Board is sponsoring the PEI Potato Chowder Competition.  The competition has two heats, one on Friday starting at 4:45 pm and another on Saturday starting at 2:00 pm, with the Champion crowned later in the afternoon on Saturday.  There will also be a PEI Potatoes booth on the Festival Grounds, where Chef Ilona Daniel of Holland College’s Culinary Bootcamps will be sharing some PEI Potato Chocolate Cake samples!

Farm Day in the City is Sunday, September 29th in Downtown Charlottetown.  The PEI Potato Board will have a display on Queen Street where the public will be able to pick up some recipes for dishes that incorporate PEI Potatoes, learn more about how potatoes are grown, and meet our mascot, Tate! 

PEI Potato growers are also proud to support the Kids Spud Run (http://www.peimarathon.ca/kids-event) on October 19th the UPEI Alumni Canada Games Track.  Kids up to the age of 14 are invited to participate and admission is free!
