Produce For Kids Hosts Twitter Party

Produce for Kids—a program that encourages healthy eating among families while raising funds for local non-profit organizations like Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals—is kicking off the summer with a Fresh Grilling Twitter party on May 16 at 9 p.m. EST about smart grilling options for kids. Using the social media platform to target parents, Produce for Kids hosts a Twitter party every other month to coincide with a seasonal theme.

Beloved Austin, TX blogger of The Spatula Dad and guest host, Stephen Ames is Produce for Kids’ Busy Working Dad member from its Parents on Produce advisory board and will lead the discussion on summer grilling.

The event enables the site to showcase members of its expert panel. Consisting of a dietitian, a psychologist and a chef among many others, these experts lead conversations that encourage participants to share stories and learn from each other.

Not only is this concept a helpful format for practical healthy food options, but a two-pronged marketing tactic for sponsors and the Produce for Kids brand. A company relevant to the theme sponsors every party and consumers benefit from the relevant content. In the case of the Fresh Grilling event on May 16, Vidalia, GA-based Shuman Produce’s Real Sweet sweet onions will supply four prizes and offer recipes to participants during the conversation.

Winners are selected randomly throughout the hour of the party. This strategy encourages participants to sustain the full hour of tweet exchanges. Amanda Keefer, Produce for Kids’ public relations and social media manager, explains that the events are rewarding because they’re helping people with practical solutions to get kids to eat well in addition to growing the brand’s mission. “We’re trying to create consumer awareness and show them that we’re here as a resource,” says Keefer.

“The feedback has been overwhelming,” says Keefer. “In March we did a Healthy Kids Twitter party where we helped moms with their daily struggles to provide healthy meals for their families, and it was sponsored by Earthbound Farm,” explains Keefer.

The March activity results from Hashtracking.com are impressive. The event generated:

63 RSVPs to #HealthyKids Tweetvite

833 tweets posted during the party

191 thousand twitter accounts reached

1.38 million impressions

During the party, four participants were chosen at random to receive a $25 grocery gift card and an Earthbound Farm prize pack containing coupons and reusable shopping bags.

Interested parties can witness the event in action by joining the Twitter party on Thursday, May 16 at 9 p.m. EST via Tweetvite: http://tweetvite.com/event/freshgrilling. Using #FreshGrilling will allow participants to view the entire conversation.
