Ribbon Cutting Announced For New Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market (PWPM), Philadelphia Regional Port Authority and O’Neill Properties Group announces today that the ribbon cutting for the new state-of-the-art, 700,000 square foot market now located on Essington Avenue is scheduled for Friday, March 25 at 1:30 p.m.

Guests of honor at the event include Mayor Michael Nutter and other city and state officials. Philadelphia’s own Lauren Hart will also be attending the event and will sing “God Bless America” during the opening of the ceremony.

“We are looking forward to the ribbon cutting as a way to commemorate all the hard work that has gone into making the new Market a reality,” said Sonny DiCrecchio, PWPM’s president and CEO. “After ten years of planning, building and overseeing the completion of this one-of-a-kind facility, we are excited to celebrate with the community as we officially open our doors for business.”

Some of those benefits include providing the entire region with high quality, fresh produce. The new facility will have the ability to maintain the cold chain more effectively, thereby supplying customers of the PWPM with fresher products with a longer shelf life. The new Market also brings thousands of jobs to the area, which is an encouraging sign for economic development.

The Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market will officially open its doors for the first day of business on Sunday, April 3, 2011. For more information about the market, visit www.pwpm.net.
