“In summer, consumers want fast, light recipes that don’t require a lot of time in the kitchen or grill side. Providing shoppers with new twists on summer favorites, as well as new recipe ideas, is a win-win for the grocer and shopper,” explains Tim Feit, Director of Promotions and Consumer Education for the WPVGA. The website allows produce managers to order tear-pads of the winning recipe, which are shipped to the store within days. Managers can also download and print a full-color POP poster featuring the winning recipe, as well as a “Pick the Perfect Wisconsin Potato” chart that shows shoppers which potatoes to use for which dish. All are provided free of charge courtesy of the WPVGA.

The winning recipe for the summer contest – “Potato Salad — Summer Style” – was submitted by Diana Chaginian of Watertown, Massachusetts. Diana notes, “I love cooking with healthier ingredients without compromising the taste and flavor profile. Very often I cook with the ingredients I have at home, and will just come up with a recipe as I’m cooking. This recipe was one of those. Last summer, I had a bag of Wisconsin potatoes and a few other ingredients on hand. I wanted to make a light, healthy, and delicious salad that my husband and I would enjoy.” For her efforts Diana Chaginian received a $150 gift card to a grocer of her choice, courtesy of the WPVGA.

Other winning recipes include “Roasted Potato & Summer Vegetable Mélange” from Kathi Jones-DelMonte of Rochester, New York, and “Potato Skins on the BBQ” by Trisha Moore of Carmichael, California.

WPVGA also provides Healthy Grown® potatoes — a sustainable eco-friendly product grown exclusively in Wisconsin. Healthy Grown® potatoes are available in russets, reds, yellow flesh and round white varieties.
