Discount Grocer PriceRite To Open First New Jersey Store, Potential For More

The first PriceRite discount supermarket in New Jersey is scheduled to open in Garfield in July, as the lower-priced sibling of ShopRite expands into the state.

A new division of Mahwah-based Inserra Supermarkets, which owns 22 ShopRites in New Jersey and New York, will operate the store, which will be the first PriceRite not owned by Wakefern Food Corp., the parent organization of the retailer-owned ShopRite cooperative. Wakefern has 55 PriceRites in six other states.

Lawrence Inserra III, president of the new division, named Inserra PriceRites, said he is hoping the Garfield PriceRite, located in a former A&P supermarket at 59 Outwater Lane, near the Clifton border, will draw customers who are looking for a low-priced grocery option within walking distance.
