Festival Foods To Open Its 15th Store In Wisconsin

Festival Foods announced Wednesday it will open a new grocery store this fall in Sheboygan at the old Walmart site on Taylor Drive.

Officials from the family-owned, De Pere-based grocery chain said the new 70,000-square-foot store will employ 225 people and feature organic foods, fresh sushi, a salad and hot foods bar, deli and other amenities. The store also will offer free childcare to shoppers.

The announcement ends months of rumors about what business would fill the former Walmart location at 609 S. Taylor Drive following Walmart's decision in September to waive restrictions that had impeded redevelopment of the property for years.

Marlin Greenfield, Festival Foods senior vice president and chief operating officer, said Sheboygan was an attractive expansion target due to its close proximity to other Festival Foods locations and because of the considerable number of Sheboygan residents who shop at the company's Manitowoc store.
