Flurry Of New Entrants Shaking Up Grocery Landscape In South Florida

Even when budgets are tight and gas prices are high, people have got to eat.

Lucky for South Florida, shoppers have an abundance of choices when it comes to grocery stores. In recent years, supermarket chains like Publix, Whole Foods, Winn-Dixie and Aldi, among others, have expanded throughout Palm Beach and Broward counties.

Publix, the supermarket chain with the most stores in South Florida, opened or remodeled 10 stores in both counties since 2010.

Winn-Dixie opened its first store in Florida since 2004 in Margate in June 2010. It was one of the first of a line of redesigned stores that offer more goods and updated fixtures inside. Since then, stores have been remodeled in Aventura and Miami, and two more are set to reopen in May in Davie and Miramar, according to Winn-Dixie spokeswoman, Mayra Hernandez.
