H-E-B Is Dishing Up Some Healthy Meals

The aroma of spicy pork with pasta and green beans wafting over the meat department at the H-E-B on Southwest Military Drive quickly attracted several curious shoppers, who cruised over for a taste.

Lorena Kaplen, a registered dietitian with the supermarket chain, was cooking up the one-skillet dish to show shoppers that healthy meals can be easy to prepare, good tasting and inexpensive.

The spicy pork samples Kaplen dished into small plastic bowls are from one of three recipes that she and other H-E-B dietitians have developed to launch the company's new Healthy Savings initiative, in which ingredients for almost-all-in-one meals are sold at a discount.

Healthy Savings is part of the larger Healthy at H-E-B program intended to improve the health of Texans.
